How does your garden grow?
This has been the question of the week! We kicked off the spring semester of dietetic internship with Nutrition Education week. Nutrition Education week is meant to give us interns a chunk of time to craft lesson plans about gardening.
Through some algorithm or other force of nature, they assign 34 interns to groups of 4 so that we can prepare a unit plan with four lessons that cover the use of grow tables, planting, weed & feed, and harvesting. And somehow there is very little overlap in the process. Most of us interns go to 2-3 different schools and never repeat a lesson in what will be about a 4 month endeavor of acting like a Nutrition Education road show! Seriously, I am in awe of how they plan this stuff out, but I like it because there is never a dull moment and it keeps you on your toes! Also, I forgot to mention that each unit culminates in a Salad Party to celebrate the hard work of the kids gardening alongside us and to increase their vegetable consumption.
While that sounds like a lot, this week has been rather low key. The use of Google Docs for collaboration is popular at SLU and I’m thankful because it has been rather COLD in the STL!!! The struggle to leave my bed has been REAL and I had this annoying cold clogging up my mind and numbing my face! To say that I felt foggy this week would be an understatement.
Even though we have been present on campus we are still gearing ourselves back up to our vigorous dietetic internship/graduate school schedule. Monday we start to juggle a bit more with Research Week and the start of grad classes. Then the following week we do it all with rotations starting back up.
Right now, I’m just going to savor these last few moments of sleeping in and wearing extremely casual clothes, otherwise known as yoga pants! 😀
So tell me…When does your dietetic internship start back up? What are you looking forward to in the spring semester?
