On the Reel is back! I wasn’t feeling the draft I had in the works for this series, so I had to re-evaluate what I wanted to discuss in this installment. In lieu of the promised post on volunteering, I want to dive right into the meat of the matter, the Dietetic Internship and the selection criteria that you will want to consider.
As a December 2013 graduate I’ve been in career limbo. During this time I’ve crafted an elevator speech to explain my career status, which ends with my current position of Substitute Cook in school food service. In response to my monologue, I’m usually asked, “How did you get that job?”
So, I’m stickin’ around doin’ this blogging thing. Close to four times I’ve tried blogging and it never stuck. I don’t know why, it was just a struggle?! This time I feel like “I got my life” with this process called blogging and I have a lot I want to share with you. That being said, I am kicking off a series of posts to help those that have yet to apply for a dietetic internship with the professional journey to RD. This post series is called “On the Reel.” Not really knowing that I would dedicate this feature solely to RD2Be professional development, one post in this series has already been published, titled “On the Reel: Join a DPG.”
This will be a long-running series because I aim to give pieces of advice based on my experience. The sequence of this series will start with guidance for the student phase and hopefully all the way up to the RD exam. Maybe even advice for the job search? The posts will advise you in a variety of ways, e.g., how-to, survival guide, or a things you will experience approach. I plan to post every other Wednesday. I am going to designate a page in the menu bar labeled “On the Reel Series,” to house all of the posts. This can be a collaborative effort too! If you have something you would like me to address or if there’s a question about the journey to RD, please email me through the contact page. Check back every other Wednesday, if you’re eager to know more about what you may be faced with on the journey to RD or just need to be in tune with someone that knows your struggle!
